A Little More About How I Work...
My first objective is to understand each student as an individual. What are her goals? What is her personality? If she is having trouble with a subject or in a class, what is the root of her problem? As I work with a student and find and refine the answers to these and other questions, I am able to adapt my curriculum to better fit the student's needs. Whatever the subject, my goal is always to meet a student where he is, and with his help, find the clearest path to bring him to the next level.

Based on my initial conversation with a parent, I'll make a recommendation for a program of study and a schedule. After my first meeting with the student, I'll write to the parent with a more thorough assessment of the student's situation. Unless it isn't appropriate for our subject, I'll assign the student homework based on the work we did in our first session. In our next session, we'll review the homework, and what we discuss during that process will largely dictate the next assignment and the topics of our next meeting. As this process continues, the student and I are able to build a unique curriculum, customized to his or her own particular needs. In my experience, this is the most effective way to root out long-standing misconceptions, build new knowledge, and provide a student with a comprehensive understanding of a subject.
